This is always cool.... hacking hardware, "old-school". I love the idea of a community lab, and this is just very cool. I imagine digging through the tables a tthe San Jose flea market and plopping gear onto a table and building "something" interesting. Video Source: YouTube Download Video...

During the last space shuttle launch, a plucky bat hitched a ride to the stars. It seems he's gone where no bat has gone before! Video Source: YouTube Download Video ...

This is the first part of the feature on the human brain. Fascinating stuff. The rush of adrenaline in a high-stress moment is a strange experience... I've encountered that several times, usually in automobile accidents. They should have also commented on the sluggishness you feel as time seems to slow down, because even as your body's reaction times and strength is enhanced, your brain is working even faster. Don't miss the follow up parts... Video Source: YouTube Download Video...

Nice explanation, it looks very large - it took the massive Saturn V to get the tiny LEM to the moon, and this thing seems to be as big as that, and they intend to send two of these to the lunar surface.

What you are seeing is not a flag, but a speaker. There is no wind, and the music is being played though that speaker...it's made of carbon nanotubes - the stuff that may, one day, allow us to build a space elevator. In the meantime, however, scientists are developing all sorts of odd things with the technology, which is a good thing, because if a factory in China puts these things out in large quantities, it will increase our abiity to manufacture more complex structures, perhaps giving us the ability to create the thousands of kilometers of "tether" we'll need to provide easy transportation into Earth's orbit. New Scientist is featuring an article about a recreation of the fabled "Antikythera Mechanism". This is the fascinating device which was found in some ancient wreckage off of Antikythera. Apparently, it was built by the famed mathemetician Archimedes. Here is a short video about it:
