My son is looking forward to "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" coming out this weekend... here's an amusing bit of PR done for the movie by comedian Adam Samberg:

Unfortunately, the vehicle is a skateboard, and the actor is Dom DeLuise...

Nice musical video tribute to 8-bit gaming on those old consoles and computers. Got a fast loader cartridge for your Commodore 64? I had that.... along with a C-1541 floppy drive (and a notcher to make use of both sides of those 5.25in Floppy discs)

Ah, that brings back some memories.

This is pretty cool... a company is taking buildings, developing a 3-D model to synchronize the animation, and projecting fantastic displays including balls of light, water falling, and even a collapsing facade!

It reminds me of what these guys did... projecting  a "prison escape" onto the wall of an actual prison - realistic enough to cause the guards to sound the alarm!

Well, this is definitely a strange one.... it's a black comedy from Hitoshi Matsumoto that takes on the Japanese "giant superhero" genre. If you get this movie (and please do, it's one of those rare classics), keep in mind you'll have to watch it subtitled, as it hasn't been dubbed in English.

I also won't spoil the ending, and I'd advise you to ignore the IMDB discussions on the subject until you watch the whole movie.

Here is the "Strange Flavour Monster" scene, in high quality:

"Just For Laughs" is a candid camera-style show where people on the street get pranked. I believe the show aired for a short while in the US, but I've always thought the bits were filmed in Canada.

This is long, but rather neat... a mini-documentary about an artist who draws on the sand below a pier, never able to see his work, which is often washed away by the tide before it's even completed.

He does it for the love of art, but watch the interview, as he talks about a few fools who try and destroy his works because of their own intolerance. The whole thing is an interesting story. If you know where this pier is, please send me feedback... thanks.

What can I say about this movie? 70s "Scream Queen" staple Caroline Munro, B-Movie staple Marjoe Gortner, a pre-Knight Rider David Hasselhoff, and Christopher Plummer slumming in this hilarious Italian "Spaghetti sci-fi" ripoff of Star Wars. From the nonsensical story to the special effects in which the models seemed to be the epical scale of, well, models, this movie making disaster is so bad that it's a classic.

Cyriak is a master at the art of bizarre animation. You've probably seen a lot of his work used as animated avatars or assorted animated GIFs that seem to loop seamlessly.

Here's his latest, Bits and Bobs:

Always worthy of a "WTF" post.

This time, it's Sun Microsystems' "Starfire" vision from 1993, with a look ten years into the futue. About the one thing it got "right" is the idea of PowerPoint presentations, but most of it is laughable, and some of it was downright disturbing, like the surveillance of her secretary. Telepresence was a bit overkill, as was the bizarre retro (looked more like something from Space:1999) desk. Sure, we have bigger monitors with LCD flat screens, but Starfire's technology somehow seems "messier" for all of its design sterility.

Bruce Branit, the guy who brought us the wonderfully funny CGI-enhanced short "405" (you know the one, with the airliner landing on the guy's jeep), spent a day filiming the live action sequences for this new short, "World Builder" and then followed up with 2 years worth of post-production work on the computer-generated graphics. A touching story.

This is cool beyond words... for whatever reason, I've been looking at multi-purpose arcade game cabinets (for MAME) and noted the inclusion of pinball games, that followed by an unrelated view of the Jackson auction, which includes more arcade video games and pinball machine then you'd find at a Dave & Busters... now this, HyperPin Front End - a cool pinball simulator. I hope this works with an accelerometer to handle bumping the table (and tilt).

OK, I saw a video today that inspired me to create this. The sight of thousands of geese, seemingly flying over New York City like waves of bombers over WWII Europe, seemed too ludicrous to ignore, so I present you with the logical conclusion: The geese PLOTTED to take down that airliner as payback for being hunted here south of the border due to their nasty fecal habits.

Impressive use of voice to create sound effects. I suppose this could be called a "song" and "music" since it seems like a choral group performing this with a conductor... but whatever it might be called, it's definitely remarkable.
