A month after launch, and the Start Menu remains horribly broken. Have over 256 program items? You'll probably find some are now missing in Window 10's Start Menu, and Cortana isn't going to find them either!

Virtual Cat Toys HD 2.0 is now available on Google Play and Amazon App Market, still waiting review on iTunes. Work can now proceed on the 21st Century Video Poker update!

I'm wrapping up work on a complete re-write of Virtual Cat Toys HD, and it will include new floors, new characters and more life-like animation.

Out on Amazon, Google Play, and iTunes! To celebrate the release, the price has been dropped to $0.99 until February 17, when it returns to the regular price of $4.99!

Wow... the great Google has redefined how to piss off their publishers. I have used adMob for all of a few weeks on my mobile apps, and my account gets canned for supposed "invalid activity" and my appeal gets instantly rejected. No evidence was presented of my supposed wrong-doing, and apparently, no attempt to get my account reinstated will be heard. Zero tolerance, of what... I have no idea. I did not purchase any sort of shady services to generate clicks, and basically displayed a simple banner ad at the bottom of my app. At the point they dropped my account, I had generated all of $9.70 in revenue, and about 50 clicks. Wow... I must have been majorly scamming them, to make that sort of bank.

For those developers considering adMob as a source of revenue... reconsider. Any network that treats publishers the way adMob does should be shunned. They get away with it because they are the largest, but when I Google (heh) around about adMob, I see a disturbing number of stories of account closures...

Conk The Roach! is finally out on all the major mobile markets! I was just notified that it was now available on iTunes, after waiting more than a week for it to be reviewed. It has been available on Google Play and Amazon's App Market for the last week. It's only $0.99, and a great way to kill time when waiting in line or just plain bored.

I plan on releasing "Conk The Roach Free" shortly - it will be ad-supported and several features will be disabled (High Scores and Formation Bonus levels). If you are unsure of how this will perform on your Android or iOS devices, give this a try and it should give you a good idea. Getting the Premium version will eliminate the ads, which I dreaded putting in this game, but did so because of suggestions of users. Why did I dread doing this? Well, like Virtual Cat Toys HD, this is a "thumb-smasher" - game play is executed by tapping on targets on the screen. With ads in place, users may accidentally tap the ads. With Virtual...

Wrapping up some final touches, but Conk The Roach is finally "gameplay complete". I just posted a video on YouTube of gameplay, recorded from my iPhone 4 running iOS7. I am debating on requiring iOS6 or later, since doing so would exclude the original iPad, which struggles to play the game with its limited memory and features. There are also a few things I'd like to figure out to package it. It will be 99 cents on iTunes, though I might make an ad-supported version available for free.

It would be wonderful if it becomes the next Flappy Bird, LOL.... The game is a "thumb smasher" - designed to be easy to pick up and play anywhere, yet it has strategic elements to go along with the skill needed to squash the cockroaches as they maneuver around your crumbs. I even have "flaming roaches" - though no creatures were harmed int he making of this game (tempting as it might be, while I have magnifying glasses and lighter, alas, my house has no cockroaches to experiment with).

Well, over a foot of snow fell here at the Casa de WTF and I can tell you I'm not a winter person. The snow stopped sometime around midnight, but the city has yet to plow the roads. Great.

I have been working on Conk The Roach, and my approach has been to make this an all new game. It will replace the original on Google's Play and also make its way to Amazon and iTunes. There will also likely be a "free" version as well.

The game itself is shaping up nicely. On the surface, it's a thumb-smasher to waste time on while waiting in lines, bored, or otherwise able to play games on your phone or tablet, but dig deeper, and you'll see nuances n the gameplay which will challenge players to score and climb to greater levels. One example is that there isn't just one type of cockroach to kill... protecting your crumbs directly also becomes a part of the gameplay, as you can move them and put out fires (did I say that?). The graphics and animations have been greatly revamped for more realism.

Sigh.

Google Fiber was something that had me excited, but after all the hype, it seems only a privileged few cities will ever get Google Fiber. What happened? What is the purpose? Was it Google's intention to tease America? To taunt the rest of us stuck with lesser services?

I'm not fortunate to live anywhere near one of the cities Google has bestowed their magical 1GB/s internet connections and magical cable services. I pay way too much for the services I have, and there is no relief in sight for me. If Google's intention (stated by a Time article earlier this year) was to "shame" cable companies into providing better, cheaper services, then they clearly haven't been paying attention. In our small town, they ran fiber optic and infrastructure for broadband in 1997, yet when Charter took over the small cable operation that year, they put the plan on hold. Ameritech offered ISDN, and had no plans to offer DSL as long as the local cable was not offering broadband. In 1999, I ended up with Starband (EchoStar/Hughes), a 1MB/s two-way satellite service with 800ms ping times (not for gamers!!). I did that for a year, until late 2000, when our local Charter offices FINALLY offered broadband to the masses here. Yes, it took them 3 years to roll it out to the customers after they were ready to - and Ameritech only followed up with DSL after Charter turned on Broadband. Why the change? Mostly because satellite dishes were popping up everywhere in our town, a small town located between two metropolitan areas, with a large population of engineers (of various disciplines) - exactly the type of customers who wanted broadband, and were not willing to wait for it.
